Hirabhai Shah was the founder of ‘Jairaj & Company’, a business establishment dealing in rice grain. Shri Hiralal Shah (Chokhawala) was born in 1933 at Pedhamali village in Gujarat. He had a very rough and hard childhood. He arrived in Pune at a very young age of 14 years and soon he had to find a job for a living. Thus his entry into the trading world began. He ventured into rice business on his own in 1952 at the age of 19. A single trading outlet for rice soon developed into a prominent wholesale shop in Pune.
Bhai lived a long, eventful life spanning over 80 years, of which he gave seven decades to this business! He entered the rice grain business at a very young age and countered many challenges to achieve unprecedented success in the field…
The elder son of Hirabhai, Rajesh Shah entered the family business at a young age and through his hard work and dedication helped expand the business to what it is today. He is credited for taking up the distributorship of basmati rice and branding of the commodity. He currently helms the commodity vertical at the Jairaj Group.
Following his father’s principals of fair business practices has earned him prestigious positions of the Senior Vice President at the FAM (Federation of Associations of Maharashtra), Director at The Poona Merchants’ Chamber, Poona Blind Men’s Association, Poona Gujrati Kelwani Mandal, Janseva Foundation and Maharashtra State Gujarati Sahitya Academy (Govt. of Maharashtra).
The younger son of Hirabhai, Jayant Shah joined the business after his brother. Following his father’s footsteps, he travelled through all rice producing states in India to expand the business. He is credited with introducing innovative ideas to the company and venturing into the real estate and construction business.
He is highly respected within the industry and was the Vice-President at the Indo Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industries (it’ll help if we can know the tenure of his vice presidency, which year to which year). Currently, he is a member of the All India Association of Industries, Mumbai (AIAI), the World Trade Centre Council of Management, Mumbai (MVIRDC) and the Promoter and Builders’ Association, Pune (PBAP).
Son of Rajesh Shah, Dhaval Shah joined the family’s commodity business as a teenager and soon helped expand the distributorship of basmati rice from one brand to multiple brands. He is credited with opening many new commodity verticals and institutionalizing people-friendly policies within the real estate arm of the Jairaj Group.
He is actively involved in both the commodity and the real estate businesses.
Malav Jayant Shah, son of Shree Jayant Shah, has carved a niche with the name of Jairaj Developers, Jairaj Group, in Construction & Land Development sector along with the business of Grains and Groceries.
With the guidance of his father Shree Jayant Shah and all the support from his uncle Shree Rajesh Shah, he has maintained a balance with both businesses blooming with success with the new ideas and working hard to create them in real. With the background of his management studies with the degree from the university abroad, he has been proving his mettle while completing multiple tasks. He is also the esteemed member of CREDAI and EO Pune Chapter.
